Submissions to an independent Black and Caribbean publishing house

Maroon House Press accepts submissions from Caribbean and diaspora writers whose work is grounded in voice, place, and narrative intention. We publish fiction and select genre work with cultural specificity, emotional depth, and long-term literary purpose.

Submission Guidelines

  • We accept fiction, literary fiction, women’s fiction, and select erotica.
  • Submissions must be complete and professionally edited.
  • We do not accept AI-generated or partially AI-written manuscripts.
  • Response times vary; please do not query before 12 weeks.
  • Submission details and windows are posted here when open.

What We Publish

Literary fiction rooted in Black, Caribbean, and diaspora experience

Genre fiction by Black authors, including romance, speculative, and paranormal

Narrative nonfiction grounded in culture, history, identity, or lived experience

Work that centers voice, place, and cultural specificity over trend-chasing

What We Do Not Publish

We do not publish academic textbooks, devotionals, or work that relies on stereotypes, cultural flattening, or trend-driven imitation rather than voice and cultural specificity.

Response Time & Editorial Process

We review submissions on a rolling basis when open. Response times vary depending on volume and editorial schedule. Due to the number of submissions received, we are unable to provide individual feedback on all submissions.
